Trinity-St. Paul's United Church is seeking a Supply Minister

Trinity-St. Paul’s United Church and Centre for Faith, Justice and the Arts, 427 Bloor St. W. Toronto, is seeking a supply minister for 6-8 months to serve while we are conducting a search for our new called minister. There is some flexibility on dates but from January or February 2025 until the summer would be ideal. This is a three-quarter position. See job description below.

Position Description for Supply Minister at Trinity-St. Paul’s

Three-quarter position: 30 hrs/week

Purpose
To provide ministerial supply in 2025 while the congregation is searching for their new called minister.

Responsibilities

  1. Worship:
    To consult with the Worship and Faith Formation Circle in order to prepare and lead Sunday worship which provides an opportunity for the congregation (young & old, new & long-time members) to celebrate God’s presence in worship and to grow in faith and in commitment to the mission of Jesus Christ. Worship at TSP is coordinated by the minister, but often includes guest preachers or leadership from groups within the congregation. Worship planning is done in consultation with the Music Director for regular and special services. The minister will also consult with the Children’s Church Coordinator about involving children in worship.
  2. Pastoral Care:
    To work with the Pastoral Care Team to provide regular pastoral care as needed. To conduct funerals, weddings and baptisms, as needed.
  3. Governance:
    To provide support and encouragement to the Church Board, its officers, committees and task groups, as it seeks to adapt and refine the congregation’s governance structure to meet the needs of changing circumstances and prepare for a new pastoral
    relationship. Attend all board and congregational meetings.
    4. Faith formation:
    To offer encouragement to faith formation groups led by congregational members (such as the Wednesday Evening Reflection Group, the Monday morning lectionary study group) and to social justice groups (such as the Middle East Working Group, the
    Indigenous Solidarity Group, the Anti-Racism group, the Climate Justice Group), and to the various Circles which focus on and carry out the ongoing work of the congregation.

Relationships
The Supply Minister is accountable to the Church Board through the Ministry and Personnel Committee. In addition to consulting with the Music Director and Children’s Church Co-ordinator as noted above, the Supply Minister will liaise with the Communications and Administration Coordinator and the General Manager of the TSP Centre in regular weekly staff meetings.

Terms of Employment
The employment period will be negotiated based on the availability of the chosen candidate. Remuneration will be negotiated according to United Church guidelines.
